Born and raised in San Diego, California, April is one of three children, growing up alongside two brothers. She attended Herbert Hoover High School, where she cultivated her early interest in social justice and public service.
After high school, she went on to pursue higher education in Political Science at the University of California, San Diego, deepening her understanding of governance, policy, and civic engagement.
Her formative years unfolded in City Heights, one of San Diego’s most culturally rich and diverse neighborhoods. Living there, April witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by people who are less fortunate, particularly those whose rights and opportunities are constrained by immigration status. These observations shaped her commitment to advocacy — she developed a strong sense that true community strength comes when we uplift those whose voices are often unheard.
April comes from a mixed cultural heritage: her roots lie in both her Chinese and Mexican lineage. This dual background has given her a profound appreciation for cultural diversity, and she sees it as both a bridge and a foundation for connection, understanding, and collective progress. It has influenced how she works — with humility, respect, and the belief that differences enrich us all.
During her free time, she likes to spend time reading cuddling with her cats, hiking, or training for her next half-marathons. April is our legal assistant at Amezola Legal Group.
